Herbalist Dr. Samuel Thompson wisely compared the body to a tree, with its disorders and symptoms being like the branches. He said, “Let names of all disorders be, like the limbs joined on a tree; work on the root, and that subdue, then all the limbs will bow to you; so as the body is the tree.”

In this analogy, the tree represents the body, and the branches are the symptoms or conditions that arise when the body is out of balance. Just as the quality of the soil determines the health of the tree, the foundational health of your body dictates how well it functions. Symptoms—what we often call diseases—may be the body's way of signaling that something is out of balance. Rather than merely masking these symptoms, we can address the root cause, providing the body with the proper tools to heal itself.

When we choose to suppress symptoms with medications without addressing the root issue, we may only temporarily relieve discomfort. However, this approach can weaken the body’s ability to heal over time, leading to further imbalances and additional symptoms.  The choices you make today can impact your health tomorrow.
